Ernst Jan Louwers, a respected IP expert from Eindhoven, played a crucial role in this workshop. With his expertise, he helped participants navigate specific questions and dilemmas within the ICD companies. His contribution was aimed at enriching knowledge in the field of data ownership and the legal nuances involved.

The participants, ranging from engineers to business leaders, became not just spectators but also active participants in the conversation about the future of data ownership. The discussions revolved not only around laws and regulations, but also the moral and ethical questions that arise when navigating the digital transformation. How do you protect data in a world that is constantly changing? How do you ensure user privacy and security while innovating?

In addition to the technical explanations about classifying data and converting it into intellectual property, there was extensive discussion of how to apply this knowledge in practice. This included lively discussions about the relationship between customers, OEMs and suppliers and how the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) affects these dynamics.

A forward-looking part of the discussion was the upcoming AI act from the European Union. The group realized that this legislation not only has business implications, but also deeply affects the way we as a society deal with technology. It emphasized the importance of thinking ahead, not only in technological innovation, but also in ethical considerations.

The Data Ownership workshop by the ICD AI working group was an important moment for all participating companies. It not only provided in-depth insights into the complex world of data ownership and IP, but also practical tools to deal with this strategically in the future. With the knowledge and preparation that has now been gained, ICD companies are stronger in an ever-changing digital world.
