Technology toppers Eindhoven surprised by Northern high-tech
News | June 24, 2019
At least 60 students from the Van der Waals study association of Eindhoven University of Technology followed a high-tech safari on 17 June. Not only did they meet our 'big 5' of high-tech, but they also got to know the Northern high-tech industry for the first time.
At the invitation of our business cluster, the students followed a program NeoPost, BD, FMI, Philips, Ziuz and ASTRON, focused on remote sensoring & big data, visual intelligence and deep learning. ,,Surprising, that's for sure'', Ries Koolen reacts afterwards. He is Commissioner of External Relations of the Study Association for Applied Physics. "We are very surprised by the diversity and the technically advanced level of all companies." It is clear that unknown makes unloved. ,,That's why we invite study associations every year to get to know our companies,'' says ICD program manager Joost Krebbekx. “Because you will find the best graduation projects and jobs with our partners. You don't have to go to Eindhoven, Delft or Twente for that."
High-tech
Although they find every company very interesting, according to Koolen, the highlight for most students is Astron. "It's cool to see that one of the largest radio telescopes in the world is in the Netherlands, just like the company that (partly) designed it." technologically advanced company. Koolen is also pleased with the variety in the programme. “This means there is something for everyone and that is nice. We can therefore look back on a fun and instructive day, which is well worth the long journey from Eindhoven!”
About SV van der Waals
SVTN JD van der Waals is the study association for all Applied Physics students of Eindhoven University of Technology. Founded in 1960, it bears the name of the well-known Dutch physicist and Nobel Prize winner Johannes Diderik van der Waals. With excursions, lectures, symposia and a study trip, she tries to get her members to view their field from a different perspective. The association also organizes sports tournaments, parties, weekly drinks, weekends and other forms of leisure. Another aspect of Van der Waals' activities is maintaining contacts with the business community in order to give its members the opportunity to easily orientate themselves on the labor market at an early stage.
