Due to corona, the regional final has been moved from December to March. “We are very happy that the final can go ahead and that the students can conclude the project in a fun and festive way,” said Coen Mollema, coordinator of the regional final in Drachten.

FIRST LEGO League
The FIRST LEGO League is an international competition in which young people between the ages of 9 and 15 are inspired as a team to investigate the social role of technology and science through challenging assignments. Each team consists of a maximum of 10 students and a coach. Every year we work with a different theme. This year's theme is Cargo Connect. The teams are challenged to come up with inventions and innovations related to transport, distribution and global trade.

Regional Final
During the regional finals, the teams will be judged by business professionals on four parts: a presentation on the central theme, a mission with a Lego robot in the competition arena, robot technology and teamwork. The jury of the regional final in Drachten includes employees from BD, Van Wijnen, Brada.com, Circular Friesland and Sparck Technologies.

Benelux final
As every year there are many prizes to be won, the most important prize is a ticket for the Benelux final. This year the organization can give away two tickets, namely the Campions Award and the Benelux Innovation Award. The Champions Award is for the overall winner of the regional final and the Benelux Innovation Award is for the team with a highly innovative project idea. The Benelux final will take place on 21 May at the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM).
Children from 70 countries worldwide participate in the FIRST LEGO League. In the Netherlands, the Technology Promotion Foundation facilitates the project and the Benelux final. The regional finals are organized by regional final partners. In Friesland these are NHL Stenden, ROC Friese Poort and CSG Liudger.
